The first funeral here was that of the mayor’s child. It was in 1859 and the ruler of the city was Constantin Alexandru Rosetti. He founded the cemetery because until then authorities had to bury dead people near the churches. The mayor known in history as C. A. WHAT TO SEE AT BELLU CEMETERY BUCHAREST
There are many actors buried at Bellu Cemetery in Bucharest: Birlic, Gheorghe Dinica and, also, Toma Caragiu. The irony at this grave, as you will see, is that this actor has always been a master of irony to the communist regime which was the state from 1946 to 1989. He was making fun of the communists in every movie. Toma Caragiu died in 1977 at the great earthquake and his statue is looking just at the back of a young girl who seems to be a real communist, with the tie of the young communists and so on. You might think that the poor actor will have to look for the eternity at the back of a young communist. 🙂 That was the funny part of our journey to Bellu Cemetery in Bucharest. Just a few steps near is the REVOLUTION HEROES CEMETERY
