COLLECTIONS AT ART COLLECTIONS MUSEUM IN BUCHAREST

Don’t forget, the Art Collections Museum in Bucharest is also closed on Easter, on January 1, 2 and 24, on May 1, August 15, November 30 and, also in December 1, 25 and 26. The museum houses many interesting collections. We are talking about artists or art collectors who would donate their collections to the Romanian state in time. A fine story is that of Simu collection. Simu was a noble in the dawn of the 20th century in Bucharest who had a museum of his own. He was very proud of it, as Krikor Zambaccian, another great art collector wrote down in his notes. Simu’s museum was demolished by the communists and the great works he had gathered were sent to different museums in Bucharest, like this one. So, you can see at the Art Collections Museum collections signed by Corneliu Baba, Iosef Iser, Elena and Anastase Simu of course and so on. Before you read the next chapter, you can also learn more about the BUILDINGS ON VICTORIA AVENUE BUCHAREST!

PAINTINGS AT ART COLLECTIONS MUSEUM BUCHAREST

A part of the building that now houses the Museum of Art Collections in Bucharest was built in the dawn of the 19th century by a local noble, called Costache Faca and it was, then, sold to a Greek businessman Grigore Romanit. It was a period when the Greeks still had great influence in the Romanian politics. Romanit created a real house for guests decorating the rooms with rare marble, amazing chandeliers and furniture brought from India or Spain. This is the reason the building has been known as Romanit House. But, in 1834 Grigore Romanit died and the whole building which is now the museum was managed by the lord Grigore Dimitrie Ghica. It was a civil building.

A new lord, Alexandru Dimitrie Ghica( 1834-1842) decided to use the nowadays Museum or Art Collections ( not to be misaddressed with CONTEMPORARY ART MUSEUM IN BUCHAREST) as headquarters of his government. In fact, it was here where he was the judge for different judiciary causes. The Romanian state as we know it today, hadn’t been formed yet and the lord’s powers were great enough under Russian or Turkish authority, so we can say that the building on Victoria Avenue was the center of power.
