WHY IS IT SO INTERESTING THE TECHNICAL MUSEUM IN BUCHAREST?
Have you imagined that the electric scooter was created a lot earlier than we believe it was? Have you ever thought that the ancient priests used technology to frighten and buy the faith of their people? Or, maybe, you have never thought that a car from the 30’s could reach 200 km per hour? These are just a few wonders you can see at the Technical Museum in Bucharest.
We visited this museum in the summer of 2017. It is rather a forgotten museum and the exhibits are not quite capitalized, I’d rather say they are not capitalized at all. The Technical Museum in Bucharest is dusty and looks like coming from the Communist period when not too many things were put into value and I mean new discoveries or great inventions. And here you can see an electric car, a small one indeed, but which could have made history.

TECHNICAL MUSEUM BUCHAREST VISITING HOURS
The Technical Museum in Bucharest is closed on Monday and Tuesday and is opened from Wednesday to Sunday, everyday, from 10.30 A.M to 6.30 P.M. These are the visiting hours for the Technical Museum in Bucharest. You need no reservations, yet, if you need further information you can call 021.336.777. You, also, do not have to worry about crowd for this Museum which is located in CAROL PARK BUCHAREST is not one of the most visited places in the Romanian capital. This doesn’t mean you don’t have interesting things to see here.

The Technical Museum in Bucharest, also known as Dimitrie Leonida Museum was founded in 1909. Leonida was one of the first to bring technology in Bucharest in the late 19th century, like artifacts to illuminate the NATIONAL THEATER, CISMIGIU GARDENS or THE ROYAL PALACE IN BUCHAREST. At the beginning the Technical Museum was located in the center of the Romanian capital, on Magheru Boulevard. Then, in 1928 it was moved in Carol Park where it is today.

TO SEE AT TECHNICAL MUSEUM BUCHAREST
There are many things to see at the Technical Museum in Bucharest as the entire exhibition is a mix of the history of mechanics, history of electricity, communications, terrestrial and air transport, Physics and magnetism or ancient technologies. You can also see inventions which were never used until recent times, yet they were patented many years ago, before Romania became part of the European Union. There are about 5,000 pieces of our recent modern technology at your disposal here. Dimitrie Leonida first thought about a museum of technology when he was a student at Charlottenburg and visited the Technical Museum in Munchen.

One ticket to visit the museum is 6 RON, which is about 1,2 Euro, or 10 RON for the entire exhibition. If you want to make movies or take pictures inside, you will have to pay another 10 RON. For groups who might need guide, the ticket is 50 RON. There are also other taxes to pay if you want to make professional movies or take professional pictures. So, it is 100 RON per hour to make photos without the right of reproduction and 500 RON per hour under the same conditions. Yet, I can assure you that you can have a great time inside the Technical Museum in Bucharest and take pictures with no restrictions. If you have questions to ask, you only need to talk to one of the employees and you will be answered. It is, indeed, a great experience.

WHERE IS THE TECHNICAL MUSEUM IN BUCHAREST?
The Technical Museum in Bucharest is on the Street General Candiano Popescu 2, District 4, Bucharest and you can get there by trams or buses. All you need to know is how to get to Carol Park Bucharest, which means 27, 1, 47, 23 lines by public transport. If you don’t find any information about getting to Carol Park, you can ask anyone about the Silver Knife, which is a transport station close to the museum. And if you are more interested about engines, locomotives and trains, you can also visit RAILWAYS MUSEUM BUCHAREST which is near North Railways Station.

One of the most interesting pieces to be seen inside this museum is an electric car invented more before the new trend was to come. The inventor is Justin Capra and he thought about this machine in 1976. He called it Sarmis, which is a pioneer of the new electric cars available world wide nowadays. Justin Capra is said to have invented also the jet-pack and that’s not all. He has also worked on more than 70 fuel-efficient cars, 7 aircraft and 15 unconventional engines, including one to respond to verbal commands. He only had two patents on his name. Justin Capra was born in 1933 and died in 2015. This is one of his most interesting inventions to be seen at Technical Museum in Bucharest.

If you are interested in airplanes, you can see here some very well preserved engines in this industry. It is also good to know that the Technical Museum in Bucharest hosts 30 pieces included by the Romanian Cultural Patrimony Institution to the Treasure category, which means goods of amazing technical value. Among them, are the Brule Power Plant, the Brush power generator, the Deutz engine, Weise steam machine, a Diesel Krupp marine engine, or a Cadillac from 1924. As about airplanes, here is an engine for one of the deadliest airplanes in history.

The exhibits in Carol Park museum of technology are also a piece of our transport history, from its very beginning. For example, you can see here old carriages or cycles. Amazingly, we used these things to move from one place to another in the dawn of the last century.

STRANGE THINGS AT TECHNICAL MUSEUM IN BUCHAREST
Since ancient times, religion has had a great importance in our lives. No doubt, the priests had great powers and they usually were in direct contact with the gods, or God. They used all kind of methods to gain people’s faith and devotion, from unknown technological devices to drugs and so on. Here, at the Technical Museum in Bucharest, you can see one of these devices that shaped the history of our world. It is the Hero’s aeolipila, a steam generator which actually was used by ancient priests to make people believe in supernatural forces.
