A VISIT TO TRIUMPH ARCH BUCHAREST

The Arch of Triumph in Bucharest is a fine place due to its location. We visited the Arch of Triumph few months ago and was a good experience
View from Arch of Triumph Bucharest

We visited the Arch of Triumph in Bucharest in the autumn of 2019. I mean we were allowed to enter in the Arch, because we can see it almost daily from outside due to our work and our way to office. The best time to visit this interesting monument is during spring, summer or autumn if, of course, it is open for public. UPDATE: The Arch of Triumph in Bucharest was opened to public and tourists every week-end from 12 A.M to 19.30 P.M. and it was free until October 16, 2022. It may be opened again in spring of 2023. Bucharest-travel.com will publish updates whenever necessary. One of my favorites photos was made in spring.

There is no daily timetable to visit the Arch of Triumph in Bucharest because it is open for public only where it houses exhibitions or events and on Saturdays and Sundays. Anyway, there are many events you can benefit in order to visit the Arch of Triumph in Bucharest which is on Kiseleff Boulevard on one the main streets coming from the Airport. Even Pope Francisc crossed the square where the monument is, when he visited Romania in 2019. We had the chance that the Arch housed an exhibition of Banksy and so we could also see how the Arch of Triumph is inside.

We payed 40 RON per person to enter the Arch of Triumph and Banksy exhibition, which is about 8 Euros, but it was alright. It is a massive building reminding you of the coldness of the pyramids, rather impersonal and cramped.
During week-ends, it’s free.

Description: Arch of Triumph in Bucharest is not always open and the taxes to enter depends on the exhibits housed by the monument yet Saturdays and Sundays it is free while in the rest of the week is closed

For example, when the Arch of Triumph Bucharest housed an event dedicated to books and reading, it was enough for you to bring a book, any book, and donate it and you could visit the monument for free. It was a good weather when we visited the Arch and that was the idea.

To have a good view from the top of the monument. Until we reached the top, we had to face the narrow and sharp stairs. It was not hard because we still have a good physical condition. Otherwise, I don’t know what to say…

This is how the Arch of Triumph Bucharest looks like inside. Nothing overwhelming, of course, but it helps if you know a little about its history we have already wrote about HERE. Long story short, in 2022 it will be 100 years since the nowadays monument was built. It was in 1922 when the new King, Ferdinand, was crowned and the political parties decided it was the moment to have such an Arch of Triumph dedicated to the great union of Transylvania, The Republic of Moldavia, Bucovina and Romania. Initially it was built from bricks and will soon be almost destroyed by time. Until 1932.

As I said, we were lucky to visit the Arch of Triumph in Bucharest due to the fact that it housed a so-called not authorized exhibition of Banksy. It was very interesting after all though the price was rather high, 40 RON. Think about the price to visit the NATIONAL HISTORY MUSEUM which is about 10 RON, less than 3 Euros. Banksy is the artist nobody knows for sure who he is, very interesting, coming from Great Britain and who is making laugh of all our strong implemented ideas and beliefs and way of life after all. When we visited the Arch of Triumph in Bucharest, one could hear even music inspired by his graffiti.

When you visit the Arch of Triumph in Bucharest, you will surely learn something interesting about the capital of Romania and its history. There are two let’s say portraits of the King and Queen of Romania who made the union possible. Ferdinand and Maria, the couple who ruled the country until 1927. These effigies are in the Arch together with short stories about the monarchy. The Arch of Triumph was finished in 1936 by the architect Petre Antonescu. In 1941 the Romanian army who fought against Russia to free Basarabia and Bucovina marched near the monument and so it did in 1945 when it had to fight against the Nazis.

The great surprise and the reason why you should follow the time when the Arch of Triumph in Bucharest is open for public is the view from the top. That is the time to visit it. Although it is not a spectacular monument, it offers a great opportunity to see the city and to make memorable photos. In the room on the top, there were exhibited some of Bansky’s works, but we could hardly wait to get out.

From the roof or top of the Arch of Triumph Bucharest you can see almost the entire city. With about 2-3 million people, Bucharest is not a very large city. You can visit the most important places in about 3 days, full staying. The view from the Arch of Triumph will give the dimension of the town. We were lucky to visit the Arch due to the exhibition. Otherwise, you should wait. We will always keep the foreign visitors updated with information on our FACEBOOK PAGE BUCHAREST TRAVEL GUIDE. You can also see different areas of Bucharest with the special devices installed by the authorities.

There were few foreign tourists who visited the Arch of Triumph with us. An interesting experience. Now, since you left the building, you have many choices. You can go the Herastrau Park which is now called King Michael Park or return to the Old City to have lunch. The Arch of Triumph is not quite an amazing building, but it worth visiting it if you find it open to public. It has been closed since October 16, 2022 until spring, probably.
