GEOLOGY MUSEUM IN BUCHAREST HISTORY

The first such museum was founded in 1864 by the Romanian scholar, Gregoriu Stefanescu, at the University of Bucharest. Professor Fuchs from Viena is the first to help the new museum with Klippstein donations. Then more than 1500 minerals came from Sankt Petersburg. In 1906 came into being the Geological Institute of Romania whose managers were to keep and create a proper area for the pieces gathered at the moment. By decree signed by King Carol I, the Institute will allow visitors to see the rocks and minerals in the museum after 1906.

The building had to be consolidated after 1977 and all collections were housed by other institutions. There were 86 exhibits only about the geological history of the Romanian territory, about 30 exhibits about the nature of Earth and more than 10 about minerals, also found in Romania. The National Museum of Geology in Bucharest will be officially opened in 1990.
