ROMANIT PALACE BUCHAREST HISTORY

It is not known the time when they built this museum. Some sources say an architect called Facca started to build the entire building in 1812. It was a time when the capital of Romania recovered from a great fire. The architect’s children could not finish the palace and they sold it to Grigore Romanit. He was a kind of minister of public works in nowadays. Romanit created a real house for guests decorating the rooms with rare marble, amazing chandeliers and furniture brought from India or Spain. This is the reason the building has been known as Romanit House.

WHAT WAS ART COLLECTIONS MUSEUM BUCHAREST IN TIME?

But, in 1834 Grigore Romanit died and the whole building which is now the museum was managed by the lord Grigore Dimitrie Ghica. It was a civil building. Did you know that for almost 100 years, in this building was the Finance Ministry of the coutry? From 1944, it has housed all kind of state institutions. Authorities rebuilt and opened the Nowadays Art Collections Museum Bucharest in 1978 with many private collections.

COLLECTIONS AT BUCHAREST ART COLLECTIONS MUSEUM

Don’t forget, the Art Collections Museum in Bucharest is closed on Easter. You can not visit neither on January 1, 2 and 24, on May 1, August 15. On November 30 and in December 1, 25 and 26 you can visit something else. The museum houses many interesting collections. We are talking about artists or art collectors who would donate their collections to the Romanian state in time. A fine story is that of Simu collection. Simu was a noble in the dawn of the 20th century in Bucharest who had a museum of his own. He was very proud of it, as Krikor Zambaccian, another great art collector wrote down in his notes. Communists demolished Simu’s museum. They sent some of his collections here. So, you can see at the Art Collections Museum collections signed by Corneliu Baba, Iosef Iser, Elena and Anastase Simu of course and so on.
