BUCHAREST SAFE TO TRAVEL

BUCHAREST CANCELS COVID RESTRICTIONS

On March 9, 2022, Romanian authorities decided to lift all restrictions related to covid pandemics in the entire country as well as in Bucharest. This means you can do whatever you used to do before the spring of 2020 when the whole mess started. And could also mean that Bucharest is safe to travel to. Well, it is and it is not. The virus still spreads into the community, yet its power is reduced due to a high vaccination rate in Bucharest and, secondly, to the fact that many people caught the disease and are well now. The most important thing is that restrictions, travel restrictions, party restrictions, wearing protection masks restrictions are lifted in Bucharest. You’ll see in this post what we are allowed to do and which are the recommendations to stay safe in Bucharest when you travel here. To mention that all the photos were made before the pandemics when our lives were great but we didn’t know that :).

WHAT CAN WE DO AFTER RESTRICTIONS LIFTED IN BUCHAREST

In March, 2020, few things were allowed for us to do in Bucharest – get your pet out, go to shopping couple of hours a day, elders were not allowed to get out from 11 AM to 5 PM or something, travel to Bucharest was, indeed an adventure. Protection mask was mandatory even in open spaces like parks, which was, indeed, awful. Not to mention a signed paper in order to mention why you are out from 10 PM until morning. Indeed, due to the fact that too many had refused vaccination in Romania, too many restaurants collapsed or stayed closed for too long. Yet, we survived. For example, we caught the disease the virus spread in October 2021, though double vaccinated 6 months before and so on. There were about 7 to 9 days of feeling like Hell indeed, but not so bad to need Intensive Care or worse. Rather unpleasant was not to be able to do your job and be helpful to foreign friends coming to visit Bucharest. Anyway, this is past already.

So, all restrictions in Bucharest have been lifted. This means, but here is the list with what we can do in Bucharest:

  • free parties in the OLD CITY OF BUCHAREST until morning.
  • no protection mask inside or outside public institutions.
  • no green paper as proof of being vaccinated or got through disease when entering malls, shops and so on.
  • are allowed concerts and other sport or cultural activities with no restrictions. Inside and outside too.
  • shops may serve clients with no time limits. Also, restaurants, pubs, clubs.
  • you can walk at midnight anywhere if you want to.
  • Yet, remember, Romania is the least-vaccinated state in EU, according to Reuters
  • if you work in Bucharest, the employer cannot send you to work from home unless you have other agreement. Same for students. As by us, work and study from home is the future, but we’ll see.

NO RESTRICTIONS FOR FOREIGN TOURISTS?

Regarding foreign tourists coming to Romania and Bucharest, there was a little problem, on March 9, 2022. A law that said foreigners should have the digital passenger locator form was still in force. Now it is not mandatory anymore. If it you be again necessary, in the future, here is where you might get it from HERE. On the other hand, foreign tourists or business visitors should know that:

  • You don’t need a negative covid test to show before you enter Romania.
  • You don’t need a green pass to enter Romania.
  • You don’t quarantine if you don’t have a negative test or a green pass.
  • If you think or you are contact of a covid patient, you should isolate for 5 days, but nobody will control that. It’s your own business.

Although all restrictions have been lifted, Romanian authorities still have recommendations for you when you travel to Bucharest:

  • Use protection mask when in crowded places and in public transport.

So, we’re kind of done with this though authorities say pandemics is not over yet. What should every foreign tourist and friend coming to Romania know is that: only 42% of the population is vaccinated, people don’t usually follow the rules and there is concerning in the country due to Ukraine war. And also for this reason prices for common goods in restaurants, hotels, transport and so on might be higher than you expected.
