The Armenian Church in Bucharest is worth visiting. Since we have been living in Bucharest for more than 20 years, you can be sure of what I say. I see almost daily in my way to work. But, where is the Armenian Church in Bucharest? It is not far from the University Square which the center of the city. It is part of an entire building complex dedicated to Armenian community in the capital of Romania and it contains a culture house and a kindergarten. So, to get to where is the Armenian Church in Bucharest, you can walk from University Square, or take the trams 66, 85, 69, 90 from the station across the University of Bucharest headquarters and where the statues are, you will see them. The address is Carol the first boulevard, No. 43.Â

The architecture of the Armenian Church in Bucharest is classical from Armenia. It is a style to be found at Vagharshapat, the most important religious center in Armenia, at Etchmiadzin Cathedral. There, the Apostle Tadeu is said to have brought the sword Jesus Himself was hit with during the crucifixion.

A great fire burnt The Armenian Church in Bucharest and authorities had to rebuilt it in 1781. The nowadays structure appeared under the rule of Carol I by the architect Dimitrie Maimarolu who also followed the style of an Armenian church in Erevan, Vagarsapat-Ecmiadzin. Every year, in the church yard, and on the streets of where the Armenian Church in Bucharest is, there are events to promote the Armenian culture and art. It is the same complex of religious and cultural activities as in the case of the Jewish Choral Temple in Bucharest. You can visit it almost every day and you also can see a museum dedicated to the Jewish community in Romania and all about its history.

WHAT TO SEE AROUND
The building you can visit today opened in 1915. The church has two small towers and a bigger one for the belfry and the altar is, also, opened. A larger church but also spectacular is to be found near Unification Square, SAINT SPIRIDON CHURCH. And you can also find an interesting church in the area, MIHAI VODA CHURCH! Did you know Armenians have been living on this land for more than 1,000 years? According to historians, this population came here due to business affairs they had in the area. They were even involved the birth of the modern Romanian state.Â
The painter Bassano made quite huge paintings for the Armenian Church.

Near the building of the Armenian Church you can visit the Library and the Culture House, so you canread interesting things about the Armenians history in Romania.
