CAROL PARK IN BUCHAREST HISTORY
Carol Park in Bucharest has been built since 1904 to 1906 to mark 1800 since the Roman Emperor Traian conquered Dacia, or the ancient Romania territory, 25 years since independence and royalty as a political regime under King Carol I and 40 years since Carol himself became the King of Romania in 1866. The Carol Park in Bucharest opening was to be an exhibition on Filaret field which became the Field of Libery for that was the place where in 1821 one of the first Romanian revolutions, Tudor Vladimirescu’s revolt actually was kind of prepared. Works for Carol Park were started by Edouard Redont, a French specialist in parks and gardens. SEE THE STORY OF THE LAST KING OF ROMANIA!

BUCHAREST AT WAR AND PARK CAROL
About the park Carol and how it came it to being in Bucharest, well, the army was also used to get rid of the lakes and swamps in the area, trees and all kind of flowers were brought and underground water sources made the new lake possible. It was crossed by the first reinforced concrete in Romania and had two small islands for tourists, a casino, a theater hall, a restaurant and also a mosque. The Exhibition building became the headquarters of the War Museum in 1923. A great fire almost destroyed it in 1938 and after an earthquake was demolished in 1940. Until 1955, there was a small BUCHAREST ZOO here. The Roman Arenas is a monumental building perfect nowadays for concerts, so if you travel to Bucharest and you get in Carol Park don’t miss it.
One of the most interesting highlights in Carol Park at the entrance is the Zodiac Fountain, built in 1935.

UNKNOWN HEROES IN BUCHAREST CAROL PARK
From this monument, The Zodiac Fountain, you can see the Anonymous Hero Monument, built in 1963 as the monument of the unknown heroes who fought for the liberty of the people and of the country and for socialism. It is indeed massive even for the great Carol Park, with five 48 m high red granite arcs. It was built as a memorial for the communist party leaders, their bodies being kept in crypts until 1990, when the authorities wanted to build the People Salvation Cathedral in the park, thus the bones of the communists were moved to ordinary graveyards.
