TO DO IN HERASTRAU PARK

TAKE A WALK AND HAVE FUN IN THE LARGEST PARK OF BUCHAREST

Herastrau Park in Bucharest is the largest one in the capital of Romania, 110.000 square meters. It is a place to take a long and relaxing walk, to go to a concert or have a beer with friends.

At Charles de Gaulle entrance into Herastrau Park Bucharest, you will find a small bike center where you can take a bike for 2 or 3 euros for one hour or for the whole day.

You are welcomed in Herastrau Park in Bucharest by a monumental bronze, statue of Charles De Gaulle. Then you can see the caryatids on the Caryatids Alley.

ROSES ISLAND IN HERASTRAU PARK BUCHAREST

Sometimes a scene is placed here for concerts. Herastrau Park is a great place to walk, as we said, but it is also a place full of history. The fathers of Europe are to be seen in a small square on the Roses Island, where there are 12 statues, the heads of the founding parents, like Konrad Adenauer, Pierre Werner or Jean Rey, all of them having played an important role in the political construction we know as European Union.

An interesting monument signed by Filip Marin was placed on the main alley of the park. This famous sculpture in Herastrau Park is called the Sleeping Beauty. Legend says two brothers fell in love with her and she didn’t know whom to chose to be her husband. So, she jumped in a lake and the one who was to save her, would be the lucky man. The two brothers started a fight and the young woman drowned. The two brothers were changed to statues that can be seen in Carol Park.

In HERASTRAU PARK IN BUCHAREST, many artists have statues, from Constantin Brancusi to William Shakespeare or Rabindranath Tagore. You can go to the jetty and cross the lake with boats during summer. But before you do that, make sure you visited The Japanese Garden and took picture of the cherry trees where you can make a wish.

Now you can play with the squirrels too. They are everywhere.

The park is a safe place. There are guardians and there is also police on horse-back. For children but not only, a small train is at your disposal for a quick trip around.

You are not allowed to swim in the lake but you can get a cold drink in hot summer at Hard Rock Cafe or H Beer house.
