From dinosaurs archaelogists found on the Romanian territory to nowadays species of plants and animals. There are dioramas and ancient artefacts here. Also, the museum has exhibitions with living butterflies. Authorities built the museum between 1904 and 1906. Mihai Roco, an architect, made the plans. Yet, the idea of this museum came from a great boyar. His name was Mihalache Ghica, the Lord Alexandru Ghica’s brother. He started thinking about a museum of natural history in Bucharest in 1834.
Antipa Museum, as people usually call this museum is one of the most interesting BUILDINGS ON VICTORIA AVENUE BUCHAREST.

ANTIPA MUSEUM HISTORY
Mihalache Ghica donated more than 150 minerals, shells, fish, birds and fossils to the museum. In 1857, Carol Ferrerati became the manager of the museum. He persuaded the Museum in Torino to donate artefacts. There were about 700 exhibit pieces, birds, fish and minerals. Ten years later, The University of Bucharest housed the museum. It is the moment when a Romanian doctor in the Lowland army, made a huge donation. Hilarie Mitrea gave 1000 species of animals to the museum. In 1894, Grigore Antipa, one of the greatest Romanian scholars became the manager of the Natural History Museum in Bucharest. He rebuilt the frontage of the building. The museum oficially opened in 1908, in the presence of King Carol I.

THE DIORAMA AT BUCHAREST NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM
Under Antipa rule, the museum exposed 4 diorama. They were about Sahara desert, the African savanna, the American prairie and the tundra. There were among the first diorama in the world. Authorities decided to give the name Antipa to the museum in 1933. They had to renovate the building after the Great Earthquake in 1977. Butterflies collections are bought in time, like Ostrogovitch and Caradja but pieces for exhibitions are also brought in the 90s from Brasilia or Indonesia. The collections of the museums are exhibited in a one-way tour from underground to the first floor in order the visitor to see the entire evolution of Earth and its beings from the beginning. The most important piece to see in the National Museum of Natural History in Bucharest is the skeleton of a gigantic elephant, unique in the whole world, discovered in 1893 in Vaslui, Romania.
This giant lived more than 10 mil. years ago on this territory. If you are interested in reptiles, you can see them live at REPTILAND BUCHAREST.
