UNIQUE CARD FOR BUCHAREST TRANSPORT

A NEW CARD FOR BOTH SUBWAY AND SURFACE TRANSPORT

Since December 10, 2017 and recently from August 2021, a unique access card for both underground transport network and buses, tramways and trolleys is being available. RATB and METROREX, the two companies dealing with the public transport in Bucharest, reported higher prices starting with September 2025. So, both the locals and foreigners can now use the same ticket when taking and changing route by metro in the Romanian capital. The price for 120 minutes journey is now 7 RON. See details on the Bucharest Transport Company website.

NEW TRANSPORT CARD COST IN BUCHAREST

The new transport card in Bucharest is 7 RON and is available 120 minutes from the first check-in in a bus, trolley, tram or subway. 7 RON means 1.1 Euro.

It might be of great help for foreign tourists who decided to visit only few places in Bucharest every day and don’t need to buy transport cards available for one month.

There were also the new cards for 2, 3 or for persons, available since October this year but only for subway, as we have already reported HERE.

All the other season tickets and passes sold by the two companies are available, at least, for the moment.

WHERE TO BUY NEW TRANSPORT TICKETS FROM IN BUCHAREST?

You can buy the new transport card, called Ultralight and which is single use, from all the stations of the Public Transport Network and Subway Transport Company. The new tariffs for both underground and surface transport in Bucharest are:

  • 1 journey using both buses, trams and so on and metro = 7 RON. Until September 2025, it was 5 RON.
  • 10 journeys using both buses, trams and so on and metro = 59 RON. Until September 2025, it was 45 RON.
  • 24 hours subscription for both buses, trams and so on and metro = 18 RON. Until September 2025 it was 14 RON.
  • 72 hours subscription for both buses, trams and so on and metro = 49 RON. Until September 2025 it was 35 RON.
  • 7 days subscription for both buses, trams and so on and metro = 66 RON. Until September 2025 it was 50 RON.

If you need one month subscription you will have to pay 160 RON, not 140 RON like it was until September 2025. A 6 months subscription is 800 RON and a subscription for 12 months is 1,410 RON.

These 24 and 72 hours subscriptions seem to be the perfect choice

for a foreign tourist who has one day or two days free to visit Bucharest and needs both subway trains and buses.
