Romanian traditional restaurant in Village Museum
We visited the Village Museum in Bucharest, last time, in October 2019. We usually visit this place during spring or autumn, but it happened to go there also in winter and summer and have something to eat or a drink at the only restaurant inside. There is always something special about this place no matter the season for it is connected to Herastrau Park, nowadays called King Mihai Park. From the restaurant, which is called ,,La Bariera” which means At the check-point, or At the border, you have an excellent view. Welcome to the Romanian traditional restaurant in Village Museum!
OLD HOUSES VILLAGE MUSEUM BUCHAREST
As always, we enjoy walking on the alleys of the museum, one of the most interesting open ones in Europe, take pictures and, always, but always find something we missed in our latest visit.
There are houses brought here from all over Romania and from Middle-Age to recent times.
You can see how people at the country managed their lives and this is spectacular, amazing. Then, a cup of coffee or a beer is always welcome. You might see people smoking, but you should know that smoking is forbidden even at the restaurant in Village Museum Bucharest. I don’t like that, but this is the rule for almost all the houses in the museum are made of wood and they might be in danger if a fire starts. And here we find the restaurant in Village Museum Bucharest.

WHAT TO EAT IN VILLAGE MUSEUM
If you are not familiar with the Romanian traditional food, we can tell you that, for example, my wife had a sheep pastry with polenta, which was and still is, a common dish in Romania at the country but not only. It was very good. This dish, Sheep pastry with polenta she tried at the restaurant inside the Village Museum Bucharest was 35 RON, but you can also try the pork pastry which is 30 RON. Anyway, they both goes with a glass of wine.
This is for you to know, for this dish can easily be found in Bucharest, not to mention the other cities or regions in Romania. You’ll see immediately how it looks like, only a few clicks down.

In October 2019, at the restaurant inside Village Museum Bucharest, I ate Mountain chicken with fried potatoes and Romanian salad and my wife had Sheep pastry with polenta. It was very good. We also had 3 glasses of beer and a bottle of water.
As far as I remember, the bill was about 80 RON, or about 95 with the tips. It was ok. We enjoyed an afternoon in fresh air with good food and a great walk in the museum. This is the Mountain Chicken I have told you about.

DRINKS AND DESSERTS AT RESTAURANT IN VILLAGE MUSEUM BUCHAREST
Tuica is a hard alcoholic drink in Romania. It is very good if you are going to ask for a soup and drink it until the soup arrives. It is 6 RON at the restaurant in Village Museum and I do recommend it for it is a traditional drink in Romania. A glass of beer is 10 RON, while a bottle of wine is about 70 RON which is 17 Euros. But a simple glass of wine, very good I can assure you, is only 17 RON. This should be enough for a lunch if you want to visit other places too. 🙂 And about the desserts, here is the menu!
